At Papa Johns, our first goal is to build a culture of leaders who believe in diversity, inclusivity and winning. One of those leaders is Amanda Clark, who joined Papa Johns in 2020 and was named Chief International and Development Officer in April 2022, after her strategy for expanding the Papa Johns footprint produced some of the biggest development agreements in the history of the pizza industry.
In an interview with The Grio, Amanda shared how she learned the importance of bringing your true self to work each day – and how she build teams where everyone feels welcomed and valued.
"I consider myself Black. I grew up in a community that was predominantly white and also in a community that was predominantly back. I've had to navigate different cultures. That has helped me in a job that is global to understand how to navigate with different types of people and figure people out and be in some ways a chameleon – and just having a respect for different cultures. Being Black gives me a great respect for other people's culture. That's a huge advantage that not everybody would have."
