Everyone Belongs: Paul’s Story at Papa Johns

At Papa Johns, we believe that Everyone Belongs, and we believe that recognizing the diverse strengths each team member contributes is what makes us better. This value is something we incorporate in every aspect of our restaurant operations.

Recently, our leadership received a heartfelt letter from April Blair, a proud mother who wanted to share the story of her son, Paul. She wrote about how he found not just a job, but a source of excitement, independence and confidence as a Papa Johns team member at our Mitchell, Indiana restaurant.

His story exemplifies the power of inclusion and the transformative impact a supportive environment can have on individuals of all abilities. April's words paint a touching picture of Paul's journey from a mother’s perspective. Read her full letter below:

“As I sit here watching my son work, he obviously loves what he does and where he works. It is no small miracle that Paul has found a place and people who embrace him as a coworker and friend.

Paul has been non-verbal since he was a little boy. When your child is diagnosed with Autism as a toddler, they give you a very long list of what he will probably never be able to do. A job and working independently was on that list. It is a work in progress, but the management and staff at the Mitchell, Indiana store have given him a chance to prove them wrong. He is thriving, learning, and happy. It is not every employee who dances into the building out of sheer joy and eagerness to be there.

With the right support and work culture, people with significant disabilities can be contributing members of a team and productive employees. It just takes someone taking a risk and giving them a chance. I hope this letter finds the proper person to see that the store, management, and employees at the Mitchell, Indiana store get the recognition that they deserve. Whether they know it or not, they have made a difference in one very special person's life and we will always be grateful. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

April”

To honor Paul and our commitment to creating better opportunities for all, the Papa Johns Foundation is proud to announce that we will be awarding a grant to the organization that facilitated his employment, the First Chance Center. This grant reflects our belief that everyone deserves a chance to thrive.

Together, let’s continue to foster a culture where Everyone Belongs and where each person's unique contributions are celebrated and valued.
