At Papa Johns, we’re always looking for ways to make good on our purpose to deliver better – and, in 2023, we’re proud to say we did exactly that. Guided by our corporate values – People First, Everyone Belongs, Do the Right Thing, Innovate to Win and Have Fun – we made significant progress on our efforts to foster a culture of belonging, reduce our environmental footprint and drive positive impact for the customers and communities we serve every day.

Released today, our 2023 Corporate Responsibility Highlights shares the important strides we’ve made in fostering a diverse and inclusive culture, offering high-quality pizza using simple ingredients and addressing our environmental impact.

People

We strive to foster a culture of leaders who champion diversity, inclusivity and success. Last year, we came together to cultivate welcoming, open communities by:

  • Growing participation in our fully-funded tuition program – Dough & Degrees – for the fifth year in a row, with 600 team members to-date accessing opportunities.
  • Advancing our goal to donate 10 million meals to those in need by 2027, with more than 4.5 million meals donated through:
    • The Papa Johns Harvest Program, a partnership with Food Donation Connection
    • Grants to national and local nonprofit organizations addressing hunger
    • The Papa Johns Foundation’s Building Community Fund, which supports local nonprofit organizations in franchisee communities
    • In-kind pizza donations
  • Awarded $1.4 million in grants to 270 local organizations that are empowering youth leadership and addressing food insecurity.
  • Continuing our ongoing support of Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) by supporting their annual Keystone Conference; providing microgrants to fund Keystone Community service projects; and hosting a “Franchisee for a Day” event for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.

We’re proud to be recognized for our People-First efforts, including being named to the Forbes 2023 World’s Best Employers list and ranking third among all restaurant brands on their 2023 Best Employers for Diversity list.

Pizza

We are dedicated to bringing better to our customers through high-quality pizza with authentic, clean ingredients – and we’re constantly finding new ways to enhance our responsible sourcing. This past year we:

  • Became members of the International Poultry Welfare Alliance (IPWA) and the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Poultry & Eggs (US-RSPE).
  • Achieved 100% of eggs purchased in North America from cage-free sources; in the UK market, we have exclusively used cage-free eggs since 2018.
  • Invested $37+ M with diverse and small business suppliers.

Planet

We are committed to addressing the environmental issues most important to our business by focusing on sustainable packaging, materials management, sustainable agriculture, food waste and greenhouse gas emissions. To further our climate goals in 2023, we:

  • Expanded our Shore Power program, which provides an approximate 25% reduction in diesel fuel consumption each year by using electric power to refrigerate delivery trucks during loading—a process that can take up to five hours.
  • Joined the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, a membership-based collaborative that brings industry stakeholders together to create packaging that is good for people and the environment.
